How to charge Crystals with Selenite (4 Great Methods)

Selenite is a powerful stone with exceptional properties: It can cleanse and charge other crystals! This very gentle method of cleaning and charging is a great way to give your crystals an extra boost of energy.

Do you want to learn how to charge crystals with selenite? Then find out everything you need to know below!

What is Selenite?

Selenite is a crystallized form of gypsum. It is named after the Greek goddess Selene, the goddess of the moon.

It is also sometimes referred to as satin spar or desert rose. But according to The Citrine Circle, there are slight differences!

If the crystal is very clear, almost like glass, it’s selenite. But if it’s more a milky white color, it’s actually satin spar. Desert rose is also gypsum, but because of sand particles, it takes on more of a brownish color and forms into beautiful clusters that gave it this name.

Satin spar and selenite have the same healing properties, though, no worries!

Selenite crystals are self-cleansing and don’t need to be charged with any special methods themselves. And they actually have such strong purification energies that they can be used to cleanse and charge other crystals.

When you place healing crystals on or near selenite, it will dissolve any negative energies that built up in the stones and charge them with positive energies.

But selenite’s properties go beyond cleaning other stones. It can rid us of unwanted energy, too! That’s why I have several natural stones in my bedroom. It’s an excellent crystal for sleep!

It brings a feeling of deep peace and mental clarity, so you don’t get into a spiral of worry when trying to fall asleep. And it helps if you are struggling with bad dreams.

I put selenite under my child’s mattress and next to her bed when she had a period of night terrors. There is not much we can do for our children when they struggle with bad dreams or wake up at night crying. But I could tell her about the selenite stones I put in her bedroom to protect her at night. And that made her happy!

She felt seen, and she had something tangible to look at and touch to assure herself that she would have a good night’s sleep.

Selenite is a very versatile stone that resonates with the crown chakra as well as the third eye chakra. It can be used to activate the higher chakras and remove energy blockages and get stagnant energy moving again.

It’s a genuinely remarkable mineral that you absolutely need to have in your collection!

Using Selenite to Cleanse Crystals

There are many different ways to cleanse crystals of negative energy. Some of the most common ways include salt water and sunlight. But not all minerals are water-safe. They might lose their color, or the metals inside the stones react with water or salt.

Sunlight has high energy, but it’s also a very harsh method of cleansing and charging. Some rocks get brittle or lose their color when placed in the sunlight.

Using selenite to cleanse crystals is the most gentle cleansing method! And it’s a very effective way to clean and charge in one go. Plus, you don’t have to remember from the top of your head which method is safe for which crystal. Selenite is always safe!

By the way, selenite is one of those stones that are not at all water-safe. It’s a very soft stone with a 2 on the Moh’s hardness scale. In comparison, a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. You can scratch a selenite crystal with your fingernails! It quite literally dissolves in water.

To be extra careful, I don’t generally recommend it as a bathroom crystal, even though the selenite properties would make it a great choice to have around when you get ready for bed in the evenings.

Since selenite is very popular and affordable, you could consider placing some in the bathroom though. If they take too much damage over time, you can replace them. It’s okay to “use up” a crystal, like rose quartz stones for the bathtub.

But this is something you should be aware of since we generally work with our crystals under the assumption that they are timeless and (almost) unbreakable.

How to charge Crystals with Selenite?

Selenite Wand

Our first option on how to cleanse crystals with selenite is hands-on, and we use a specific form, the selenite wand. Wands are available for purchase online or at your local crystal shop if you are lucky and have such a thing 😉

You are very active in this form of charging, which sometimes is the right way to go. Either because you have new crystals that you immediately want to start working with or you prepare the stones for a very active and energizing ritual and want them to be attuned to that.

Grab your wand and the crystals you want to charge, then find a comfortable place to sit down. Slowly move the wand over each of your crystals with the intent of cleaning them of any unwanted energies. Visualize this as dark mist you are pulling out.

After that step, visualize how the selenite fills each crystal with pure white light as it is charging them with positive energy. Allow the crystals to charge for as long as feels right.

Selenite Chips

Selenite is excellent for passive cleansing and charging! And there are several ways to go about that.

The first one is to bury your crystals in a bowl of selenite chips overnight. This is a great way to charge a more considerable number of minerals at once, e.g., for a crystal grid.

Ideally, these should be matching stones that you use for the same purpose and not conflicting crystals that don’t go together. You don’t want a bowl of muddled energies!

Place the minerals in the bowl and cover them with another layer of selenite chips. Place the bowl on a window sill or somewhere else where it will not be disturbed overnight.

In the morning, you can remove your crystals from the bowl. You could consider thanking the selenite for its work. This is my preferred way to prepare for setting up a crystal grid!

Selenite Charging Plates

My favorite way for using selenite to cleanse crystals jewelry is the selenite plate!

You can buy pre-made selenite bowls online, get a selenite slab, or easily make your own by placing a selenite tower and several pieces of raw selenite on a small regular dish or plate.

Then, put your crystal bracelets on or around the selenite and leave them overnight. In the morning, remove your crystals from the plate and enjoy their newly charged energy!

This is a fantastic way to have them charged and ready to go every day.

One thing to note: I find it important to choose the size and amount of selenite stones in relation to the number and size of crystals you want to charge. It wouldn’t feel right to have one little selenite chip tasked with charging six large towers!

Sometimes the size of healing crystals matters. So, try to find a good balance that doesn’t make the selenite look overwhelmed by other minerals.

Selenite Lamps

A lesser-known way for using selenite to charge crystals is by putting up a selenite lamp. Selenite lamps are beautiful and look great in the home. They also provide a gentle, steady stream of selenite energy that can help to charge your crystals. Place your crystals on or near the selenite lamp and allow them to charge overnight.

As I said earlier, selenite is a fantastic crystal for sleep. So, consider investing in a selenite lamp for your bedroom! It improves your sleep quality while getting your crystals in optimal energetic shape for their next task.

Selenite and Storing Crystals

While many of these options on how to charge crystals with selenite sound like great ways to store crystals for extended periods of time, I can’t recommend that!

It might seem like a good idea to keep your entire crystal collection charged and ready to go, but long-term exposure to selenite can actually drain some crystals of their energy and deplete them for good.

If you are going to be storing your crystals because you won’t use them for a while, cleanse them either with water or by shortly draining them of negative energy with a selenite wand.

Then put them away safely so they don’t scratch and don’t get sunlight, e.g., in a wooden box or cotton bag without crystals that charge other crystals. Check out my article on how to best store and organize your crystals!

How to charge Crystals with Selenite: Conclusion

There are many different ways to charge crystals with selenite. These are just a few of my favorites! The most important reason why using selenite to cleanse and charge crystals is so great is that it’s an absolutely safe method to use for any type of healing crystal, even soft stones or elaborate figurines.

While some crystals are not safe to be cleansed and charged with water or sunlight, selenite always works. And this crystal never conflicts with other crystals!

There are many ways to do this that could all be considered “proper”. But my preferred method is this: Every evening, I clean the crystal bracelets I wore that day under running water with a bit of soap. After drying them, I place them in a selenite bowl to let them charge overnight. While water can damage crystals over time, I find it important to get rid of any dirt and germs on the bracelets that are in contact with my skin all day. The selenite bowl is a gentle and comfortable way to have them charged and ready to go the next day.
