Crystals for children can be a great way to introduce kids to the healing power of crystals. Kids are naturally drawn to crystals, and a stone talisman can be a great source of support for them!
In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits of crystals for kids and list some of the best crystals for children to use.
While we often recommend crystals to adults based on specific problems or goals, a more general approach makes more sense for children because, during childhood, everything is constantly in flux, and we want to take a holistic approach instead of focusing on one specific issue.
So, when choosing the best crystals for children, a good starting point are stones that resonate with us in a more universal way!

Words of Caution
Healing crystals for children are a great way to support their general well-being, but if you are at all concerned about the physical or mental health of your child or their development, contact a pediatrician immediately!
Take extra care when introducing younger children to crystals! Smaller tumbled stones are a choking hazard. And raw crystals might have sharp edges that can cut the skin.
Also, crystals can contain toxic metals and elements. I recommend placing healing crystals at a safe distance in the environment of smaller children, e.g., rose quartz on a high shelf for a loving, calming atmosphere, or selenite at a safe spot under the bed or mattress for better sleep.
Only hand children crystals directly when they know not to suck or lick the stones (that’s usually at an age of around 4 years old). At this point, they are likely to develop more of an active interest and conscious connection to the stones as well.
The Benefits of Crystals for Children
Gifting your child gemstones has several tangible benefits for kids.
Firstly, most children love treasure! They love the feeling of owning something special because it supports their feeling of self-worth.
A crystal is a gift that is very valuable in the eyes of children. And that, in turn, will make your child feel valued.
Crystals have an undeniable beauty. They are colorful, sparkly, and interesting to touch. Children are drawn to crystals for these reasons. And they will be happy to give their crystals a special place in their room or carry them around all the time!

A gemstone or crystal jewelry might be the most long-lasting gift you will give to your kid!

Thirdly, crystals have a calming effect on children. They make a wonderful talisman! If your child is feeling anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed, holding onto a crystal bracelet, necklace, or pocket stone can help them to feel more grounded and centered.
Fourth, crystals can help children to connect with nature. By teaching your child about crystals, you can also introduce them to the natural world and the elements. This connection can be very grounding for kids and help them to feel more connected to something larger than themselves.
Fifth, crystals are a great way to introduce kids to meditation and mindfulness and help them connect with their emotions. If your child is struggling with anxiety or stress, crystals can be a great tool to help them relax and feel more grounded.
Touching their stones can be very helpful for young people who are dealing with big emotions like sadness, anger, or fear. Healing crystals can support them in developing healthy coping mechanisms, not only through the actual energy work but simply through their presence.
There are many different crystals that can be helpful for children, and it can be hard to know where to start. The best way to figure out which crystals are right for your child is to trust your intuition. Think of similarities and differences in the personalities of you and your child. Then consider if your child would benefit most from stones that are energizing, calming, or protective.
With older children, it also makes sense to ask them what they’re interested in or what they need help with and then do some research on crystals that can support those areas.
E.g., if they like art, a sacral chakra stone can improve their creative energy. If they love sports but feel too exhausted after school, an energizing crystal like tiger’s eye or citrine during the day and a calming healing stone next to their bed at night can help.
If you are looking for a sweet crystal gift to get your child, birthstones and zodiac stones are always a great option, too!
Birthstones for Children
One of the best ways to introduce crystals to children is through their birthstone.
Birthstones are crystals that are associated with each month of the year, and they can be a great way for kids to connect with their own personal energy and have a talisman or a precious treasure that belongs only to them.
Each birthstone has its own unique properties and energies that can support children in different areas of their lives. And it’s fun for them to listen to you explain the meaning and purpose of their stone.

An alternative to birthstones based on the month are zodiac stones. These are crystals that are associated with each of the 12 astrological signs.
In some cases, these overlap with the birthstones, making it a clear choice.
In other cases, you can go with your intuition or your child’s individual goals or needs to decide whether you want to go with the birthstone or zodiac crystal.

Protective Crystals for Children
One of the most important things you can do for your child is to help them develop a healthy sense of self-protection. This includes helping them to trust their intuition, set boundaries, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Crystals can be a great tool to support kids in all of these areas!
Here are some crystals that can help your child to feel protected:

Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline is amazing at absorbing negative energy and protecting against other peoples’ energies or energy drain. This root chakra crystal is a great stone for sensitive and anxious children to carry with them to school as it can ground them and create a kind of protective barrier so other children’s energies and emotions stay on the outside.

Smoky Quartz
Smoky Quartz is another powerful protective stone that helps to ground and center kids. It’s also one of the best crystals for children who are dealing with big emotions. Smoky quartz can make them feel more emotionally balanced and more in control.

Obsidian
Obsidian is a great stone for helping kids to trust their intuition. It’s also very protective and can help to shield against negative energies. It’s an all-rounder when it comes to protective crystals for children!
Loving Crystals for Children
In addition to crystals that can help with protection, there are also crystals that can help kids to feel loved.
These crystals are particularly good for children who are dealing with anxiety, stress, or low self-esteem, as they have soothing and calming healing properties and remind the child that you are always there for them.
Some crystals that can help your child feel loved include:

Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is the heart chakra stone and the crystal of unconditional love. It’s the best crystal for children to feel loved and supported and a wonderful gift!
It’s also very helpful for kids who struggle with developing self-love and self-acceptance. And it’s one of my favorite crystals for parent child relationship or guardian child relationship because it helps us develop loving communication.

Rhodonite
Rhodonite is so beautiful! And it’s a great crystal for emotional healing. It can help children to process emotions after traumatic events and loss in a healthy way and to develop a stronger sense of self-love.

Green Aventurine
Green Aventurine is a crystal that is known for its ability to attract good luck and abundance. But this heart chakra crystal is also great for helping kids to feel confident in themselves and their support network and to feel loved.

Calming Stones for Children

Amethyst
Amethyst is a calming and soothing stone. As a crown chakra crystal, it’s connected to our intellectual abilities. It’s helpful for kids who are struggling with anxiety or stress, in particular those with fears related to tests and exams.
Amethyst will help them feel more relaxed and at ease while also being mentally clear and able to access their knowledge. Check out my list of knowledge crystals for students as well!

Selenite
Selenite is a powerful stone for calming and centering. It can help children to feel more balanced and grounded. If your child has trouble sleeping, place some selenite under their mattress!
Selenite stones are the best crystals to help your child sleep and perfect crystals for children’s rooms no matter the age. I have placed them all around my kid’s bedroom!

Sodalite
Sodalite is a great crystal for promoting peace and calm. As a third eye chakra stone, it’s connected to wisdom and intuition, but it has a very gentle energy.
Sodalite can help children better understand what’s happening around them, while the stone’s soothing energies let the child know that everything will turn out okay.

How Crystals for Children can be used
We have already talked about a few ways to use crystals for children. You can place calming crystals under their mattress. Or you can place crystals around their room.
Older children might like a talisman, either in the form of a crystal bracelet, necklace, or pocket stone, so they can take it with them throughout the day, touch their crystal to feel grounded, or remind themselves of a goal or wish they have.
You can also give kids crystal figurines so they can set up a form of crystal grid! Teenagers might be interested in learning how to set up a real healing grid themself.
But for children, it’s a lot of fun to spend time with crystalline animal figures and set them up in pretty patterns.
You can also teach your child how to take care of their “pet rocks”, how to clean crystals and how to charge them, and you can give them a nice wooden box and selenite bowl to store their treasures in.
