There are two angles to the question, “Can you put rose quartz in water?” Below, you will find answers to both the question if you can clean rose quartz crystals under running water, as well as the question if it is safe to put rose quartz in your water bottle to create crystal-infused drinking water.

Can you put Rose Quartz in water to clean the crystal?
Not every healing crystal can be cleaned with water. This is mostly determined by their Mohs scale of hardness value. Softer stones do not do well with wetness. However, rose quartz is a rather hard stone and does not mind water! You can also rinse it down under running water, which is a great way to clean stones right after purchasing them.
If you use a rose quartz facial roller or gua sha stone, you should rinse it with a bit of gentle soap and lots of warm water after every usage so you don’t smear germs all over your lovely face. That could irritate your skin or even lead to inflammation!
Rose quartz bracelets and amulets also can be cleaned with a bit of soap under warm water regularly to keep them in safe shape to wear.
I highly recommend that you thoroughly clean any rose quartz that touches your skin after every wear!
If you have raw rose quartz crystals that you set up as decoration and to influence the energy in a room, I don’t recommend long soaks in water though. Over time, the minerals that turns rose quartz pink can react with the water and your stone’s looks might suffer.
With rose quartz jewelry and rollers, the priority is always to protect your skin. But when you have a large, expensive stone, the priority is to protect the stone and treat it in the most gentle way.
There are ways to cleansing crystals that are much gentler than water and might be overall more beneficial because they also charge your crystal with energy. Placing the stone on a window sill during a full moon night, for example, is one of the gentlest and safest ways to cleanse a healing crystal off negative energy and charge it with positive energy in one go.
If you want to charge your rose quartz bracelets or facial roller, it’s easiest to place them next to selenite stones or in a selenite bowl overnight. They will be charged again when you use them the next day!
Just please don’t store your crystals with selenite. If you know that you won’t use a specific crystal bracelet for a while, it’s better to only cleanse it and then put it in a box and only charge it again when you plan to use it.

Can you put Rose Quartz in water to make crystal-infused drinking water?
The general consensus is that it is NOT safe to put rose quartz (or any healing crystals) directly in your drinking water. Even if you clean the stones thoroughly, there might be toxins in them. Rose quartz is pink instead of clear because it has minerals in it. And we have already talked about how these can react with water. You also “don’t know where it’s been”. Your crystal might have been treated with toxins that would make your rose quartz water rather icky.
So, even if rose quartz is considered one of the water safe crystals, I recommend the so-called indirect method of making gem water as it is much safer for you. You simply place rose quartz stones around your water bottle or, if you are so inclined, buy one of the fancy crystal water bottles that have the crystal in a different chamber than the water.

📄 Get the Free GuideThis indirect method of creating gem water is safe and, in regard to the energetic properties of healing crystals, just as efficient as placing the stones directly in the water. You don’t want any physical things from the stone to go inside the water like you would with cucumber or lemon slices. Instead, you want the water to be energized by the crystals, a vibration transmission. And you can reach that by proximity!

About Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is a beautiful pink-colored form of quartz. Its color comes from metals inside the stone, usually titanium, manganese, and iron. Rose quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the more stable crystals. That’s why the answer to the question “can you put rose quartz in water?” is that it’s generally safe to clean this stone with water.
However, the metals mean that rose quartz does suffer over time when spending prolonged periods of time in baths (be it in a crystal-infused bath for you or soaking the healing crystal in salt water overnight). That’s why you might want to differentiate between rose quartz stones that you want to display and that should look their best. And those that do more physical work, for example as pocket stones or bath stones. You might have to replace these after a while
As a healing crystal, rose quartz can help you relieve tension and stress. It supports you in letting go of fears related to uncertainty and can show you how to accept love in all its forms and how to bring in forgiveness and compassion. It is the love stone and perfect for manifesting love! Rose quartz is also the main heart chakra stone.
If you place a beautiful, large, raw rose quartz in your living room, it can help to create a kind, loving atmosphere and improve communication in your family. Using smaller, more affordable tumbled rose quartz stones in your bath can make for a relaxing, cleansing experience after a long day.
Rose quartz is one of the best crystals for beginners. It’s very popular and you can easily purchase it in all kinds of shapes and forms. It’s a wonderful and versatile stone that is simply pretty, safe to be cleaned with water, and its positive energies mean it’s a great companion in every form of crystal work!
