It’s okay to call a compassionate, loving energy “feminine” without it implying that this is how women are or should be or that these are properties that specifically apply to women. But just like people of any gender can present femme or masc, healing crystals can have feminine or masculine energies.

While for many uses, it doesn’t have a direct influence on whether you have a more male or female stone, you might also want to choose crystals specifically based on this energy distinction if you want to connect on a deeper level with your own masculine or feminine side.

You can also pick a specifically male or female stone if you are looking for a specific type of support, e.g., when you wish to carry crystal jewelry that gives you the feeling of motherly support. The Difference between Masculine vs Feminine Energies

That doesn’t in any way mean you should not seek out male or female crystals, though! When we are looking for balance in our lives, it can be helpful to focus on cultivating the energy that is most needed at the time.

We have discussed a few of the most important male and female stones above. But if you want to know whether a healing crystal has masculine or feminine energy, here are a few (not fool-proof!) tricks that can give you some information on the energy of other stones:

One way to find out whether a crystal has more masculine or feminine energy is by its color. Masculine stones are typically darker in color, while feminine stones tend to be lighter.

Another way is by its shape. Masculine crystals are often sharper and more angular, while feminine stones are typically more rounded. Of course, this is only helpful with raw stones. Tumbled stones are, by default, rounded.

If you are looking to work with feminine energy stones, you might want to keep them in your bedroom or place them on your altar. You can also wear them as jewelry or carry them in a spell bag with other gemstones.

When you are looking to balance masculine and feminine energies, try using stones of both energies together. You might want to carry a masculine stone in your left pocket and a feminine stone in your right pocket. Or you can place them on opposite sides of your room or house.

You can also build a crystal grid with masculine and feminine stones. For this, you will need six stones total. Choose two masculine stones, two feminine stones, and two balancing stones. Place the masculine stones at the bottom of the grid, on the left and right sides. Then place the feminine stones at the top of the grid in the middle. The balancing stones can go in the remaining spaces.

Visualize your wish for balance while setting up the crystal grid and leave it up until it feels depleted.

No matter which masculine and feminine stones you choose to work with, always remember to cleanse and charge the crystals before use. This will help to remove any negative energy they may have picked up and will allow you to infuse them with your own personal intention!
